Inventor's Laboratory was a great success!

On Monday, campers experienced past inventions.  They learned about how a TV works.  To see the components they learned about, campers were allowed to take apart a couple television sets.  Next, they learned about the telegraph including a little Washington County history.  They practiced Morse Code and then tested out this ability with telegraphs.  They recreated a light bulb experimenting with the length and thickness of the filament.

On Tuesday, campers were given various supplies and asked to construct a certain item.  They were given no instructions and very loose parameters.  They're inventive spirits led them to create unique and functional items.  They reflected on their designs and modified them for improvement.

On Wednesday, campers adopted an egg.  All day long, they invented contraptions that would keep their egg safe.  They used everything from uncooked spaghetti to balloons to keep their shells intact.  Campers worked in groups to construct catapults.  All surviving eggs were launched in the catapults at the end of the day.

On Thursday, campers were given a plane crash scenario.  As groups, they gathered wreckage to assemble structures and simple machines to keep them alive until help came.  They used the information from earlier in the week to use Morse Code to signal for help.  Many groups constructed make-shift catapults from the items they gathered.

Campers stated the opportunity to be creative was what made the camp such a delight.

Inventor's Laboratory Towers

Aggie Adventures campers built structures out of marshmallows, gum drops, and tooth picks.

Inventor's Laboratory Catapult Launch

Campers and their camp directors launch eggs with the catapults they constructed.

Inventor's Laboratory Survivor

A plane carrying our campers crashed onto a deserted island.  They gathered wreckage from the plane and cargo hold to construct shelters and food traps to survive until help came.
